23 Years of Love!

The Jon and Tania Story – In 23 Photos!

To celebrate our Anniversary today, here’s a gallery of photos of us together from 23 years of love – From 1987 until now, with one photo representing each year of the journey.

Enjoy!

The Great Journey began on October 12, 1986…

A poem I wrote on the day Tania and I started going out…

October 12, 1986

I stood before the chamber for many days
I wanted to be sure before my choice was made
What’s this fear of what my emotions have to say
That’s to conventional thinking when my heart has it’s way

Not a great poem, but I’m sure glad I wrote it down at the time…

Note: Back then I was always writing “for” when I meant to write “of” – that chamber of days has contained 8,401 days so far.

My heart had it right, and I’m glad it had it’s way!

The Week That Was

the onehumanblog

Some weeks pass by with very little change in my life, and every so often one comes along that rearranges the landscape of my life. This last week was one of those weeks…

Redbot Now For The Future

I submitted this graphic to our local alternative/culture weekly – The District Weekly – to use as a header on their Calender page.

They welcome local artists, photographers and illustrators to submit work. It’s unpaid, but if they use it, 20,000 people will get to see your work for a week. And they write a little blurb about you and give your web address. Sweet deal for starving artists like me.

I got an email back in the middle of the week making sure they had all the info right for the blurb… look for Redbot in a future issue of The District Weekly!

You can read about this graphic here: Redbot Now For The Future

Redbots Are Go!

Redbot Loves You! got a huge embrace from the local art community this week as we celebrate National Arts Month.

GLOBAL, The Greater Long Beach Arts Lab, which is a part of The Arts Council for Long Beach invited my little Redbot and this project to become pARTners in the arts.

You can read more about that on Redbot Loves You!

Ride The Bus With Redbot

Redbot will be appearing in GLOBAL ads this month, including ads in 300 Long Beach Transit buses, staring down at over 90,000 passengers… I’m thinking about making my own bus adventures with Redbot to visit the ads and leave Redbots and buttons for my fellow passengers – I’m still making plans for this adventure…

Redbot Ownership Kits

After making 25 of the original Redbot Ownership Kits, the Ownership Guide has undergone some revisions to reflect the changes in the Redbot Loves You! project.

25 Kits containing version one.two were given out at The Danke Schoen Soiree on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Those were limited edition Kits, and the next group will all contain version two of the Owners Guide.

Congratulations to all the owners of original Redbot Loves You! collectibles… there are only 8 of the original version one Kits left, get one before they are gone for good…

All version one and version one.two Kits are unnumbered. The new Kits will be numbered and available soon.

Seek and Find – A Redbot Hunt

Redbot Loves You! and GLOBAL are working on taking Redbot up to the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach for the First Fridays art event on November 6th to create a Seek and Find Redbot Hunt for the kids.

More information on this event as it approaches, but I am really excited about this project…

Oh The Pain…

Meanwhile, that little tooth in the back of my mouth where a filling came out about 6 months ago suddenly decided to become a BIG PAIN…

I saw my dentist early in the week and got the good news – root canal! I scheduled one for the following Monday and increased my dosages of Tylenol Extra-Strength pills.

By Thursday the pain was taking over my brain and I scheduled an emergency root canal for Friday morning at 8:00 am. By this time no amount of pain medication was helping – I have an incredibly high tolerance for pain meds – just my luck.

Thursday evening we HAD to attend The Danke Schoen Soiree put on by GLOBAL and the Arts Council for Long Beach – Redbots new pARTners (see above) – to represent for Redbot Loves You!

Redbot at The Danke Schoen Soiree – October 8, 2009 -  all photos by Tania

Normally this would have been a pleasure, but considering the pain – I survived the event, went home, took more useless pain pills, went to bed, and didn’t sleep all night.

At 8:00 am I was at the Endodontist – ready and eager for some serious mouth-numbing drugs and oral surgery. Otherwise known as The Breakfast of Champions.

All is well now.

The pain meds (so glad to be done with those!) have all been flushed from the system, and my body is starting to feel like me again – and now I have so much mental space that’s not being occupied by overwhelming tooth pain :)

New Landscapes To Explore

Over the last several weeks I’ve been feeling the need to let go of my project – The MMJ Project - for a while

For two years I’ve been intensely focused on The MMJ Project, a documentation and participation project about the medical marijuana movement here in Southern California.

One of the main goals of my project was to participate in the creation of a true, legal, non-profit medical marijuana collective – which was accomplished late this last summer. I belong to a non-profit collective called Apothecary’s Assistants Collective (AAC), and we’ve been through a big struggle with the City of Signal Hill (read the story here in The District Weekly), but we are now relocated in Long Beach.

I have put hundreds of hours into the The MMJ Project, because I truly believe in marijuana as legitimate medicine. But I must admit I have a bit of exhaustion from the effort.

My work with Redbot came out of my desire in August to work with some other graphic than a marijuana leaf for a while… and now Redbot Loves You! has created a whole new, playful landscape for me to explore.

So, while I am still a medical marijuana patient and supporter (and volunteer at our collective) – I am retiring The MMJ Project until further notice.

You guys go on without me… I have Redbots that need my attention here… We’ll catch up with you soon.

Update – First Week of October

the onehumanblog, the project report

Updates from the world of onehumanbeing…

Redbot Loves You!

Redbot at Soundwalk 2009 It’s Arts Month here in Long Beach, and Redbot is helping to celebrate his hometown…

On Saturday, Oct 3rd we were at the Soundwalk in downtown to enjoy and ponder the various works of sound that enveloped a 4 to 6 block area of Long Beach.

Much of the work was interesting but a few pieces really stood out – you can read my review on Redbot Loves You!

I’ve also made some special edition Redbot Loves Long Beach! buttons to celebrate this month… these are FREEBIES, so just ask me if you see me around – I’m carrying a supply with me at all times.

AHEAD FOR REDBOT…

Redbot’s friend, Kristina, took Redbot across the pond to the little island of England, and took a number of cool photos – a show will be posted this next week…

I’m planning a Redbot Hunt for later this month or early November – more on that as the time approaches.

The Turning – A Serial

The Turning - Sight Seer - 9-19-9 The Turning is a semi-non-fictional, mythical and mystical look at the time we are living in and the future that is coming at us very fast. Postings for this story began in September 2009 and will continue until 2015…

The latest from The Turning – A Serial is the posting called Sight Seer – 9-19-9 and is from a piece of writing I did back in the mid-90’s.

The last couple of weeks have been a trip through Hades for me, and the story will be posted soon… unfortunately they don’t let you write letters or send postcards in Hades, and I’ve had to wait until I resurface to write the tale…

The MMJ Project

Currently The MMJ Project has been put on hiatus – I’ll post news when The MMJ Project starts up again.

The Turning – A New Project Site

STEW, The Turning, the onehumanblog

theturning_header_5

I’ve been spending the last few days putting together a project site for The Turning, which is now open and ready for use… you can visit it here: http://theturning.onehumanbeing.com/

On the new site you’ll find the story has been organized to make it easier to follow.

I’ve added extra material to help you understand the various ideas from the story – Monthly Mayan calenders with downloadable PDF ’s of the different periods of The Tzolkin, a playlist of songs that the story is partly based on, and even a scrollable timeline of postings… and I have many other things planned for the future.

I have also moved STEW, an allegorical story about the 2008 election, over to The Turning site, where these two story will soon be merged into one…

What Is The Turning?

This is serial – a story that will unfold over a seven year period of time – which tells the story of a mythical and imaginative journey taken by Jon, onehumanbeing that blends fiction and non-fiction as it explores ideas about time, being human, bipolar disorder, god(s), creation, history, Mayan calenders, astrology, space, the sub-conscious mind, quantum physics, American Christianity and the coming Long Cycle – among other things.

But most of the time this story is more about the questions it stirs up in you than anything else…

Find out more here... About The Turning

What Is A Project Site?

As an artist I’m always at work on more than one thing at a time. For example, when I’m painting I usually have about 5 paintings going at once – all in various stages of completion.

Currently, much of my work is done on very large scales. As an example – The MMJ Project, which uses my local city and community as the studio and working space for my various activities involving Medical Marijuana and the long struggle to get it established and normalized.

Some of my other projects include Redbot Loves You! and The Turning – A Serial. I also have some others that are “in the works” and not ready for public consumption yet…

To keep my various projects, and the different materials, concepts, and campaigns from getting lost in a confusing mass of stuff, I started to start creating “project sites” for each project idea – sort of like spin-offs from TV shows – and this gives each project it’s own home.

By using this “multiple project sites” approach, I find as my focus shifts over time I can move from one project site to the next, adding new material, making changes, adjusting the project to keep it on track, and whatever else needs to be done at that time.

Then, after a while, a shift or a change comes over me and I’m onto the next project – and around and around it goes…

I hope that helps you understand the process going on here at onehumanbeing.com

Until later, best of health…

The Turning – Kukulkan – 9-11-9

The Turning

the-turning-kukulkan

The Return of The Plumed Serpent

So many different stories, myths, legends, and names: Kukulkan, Ququmatz, Quetzalcoatl, The Plumed Serpent, The Precious Twin, The Giver of Calenders, The Bearded White Man, The Keeper of Wisdom, Intelligence and Self-Reflection, Thoth of Egypt and some would even claim – Jesus Christ.

In every story he’s a benevolent Man-God of love and compassion, who left us but said he would return someday.

From Wikipedia: Quetzalcoatl: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quetzalcoatl

Some Mormon scholars believe that Quetzalcoatl, as a white, bearded God who came from the sky and promised to return, was actually Jesus Christ. According to the Book of Mormon, Jesus visited the American natives after his resurrection.

Latter-day Saint President John Taylor wrote:

“The story of the life of the Mexican divinity, Quetzalcoatl, closely resembles that of the Savior; so closely, indeed, that we can come to no other conclusion than that Quetzalcoatl and Christ are the same being. But the history of the former has been handed down to us through an impure Lamanitish source, which has sadly disfigured and perverted the original incidents and teachings of the Savior’s life and ministry.”

I find it to be more than curious that so many cultures over the course of human history have encountered this strange, benevolent Man-God – and that his return has been prophesied over and over again.

For the Maya, Kukulkan holds a place of special reverence – when he first came he gave them their calenders and taught them to stop the practice of human sacrifice, among other things. One day, when his appointed time had come, he left by the sea, but promised he would return again someday.

I have a few questions for those with ears to hear:

Do you have oil in your lamp?

Do you hear the sounds of the Great Procession?

Come listen, for a Great Kingdom is coming near the Home of Man…

Behold, I hear the sound of a great feast approaching – I see a great city, and it is coming like a wonder in the clouds, a Light above lights, a Glory greater than all the glory of the Earth.

A change? A shaking? A sorting of the sheep and the goats? Many strange days are ahead, but do not fear, the battle has already been fought and mankind has a champion, a brother who has already gone this way many times before – and like he promised, he will return for the day that has been appointed.

But get yourself ready, because we won’t be going this way again – not in this lifetime anyway. I just thought you should know…

This Has Been A Message from Ho Ik – The Wind of Hermes and Mercury,
just one of the forward-looking service provided by onehumanbeing.com

PS. If all of this story has seemed veiled, strange or mysterious so far, that’s alright, because it has to be for now.

If this was a road-trip I’d probably tell you to relax and settle in – we have a long road ahead of us, but we have an early enough start so you won’t miss anything.

Soon the 6th night will be upon us, and the hard, winter cold… then  I will be able to tell you long stories around the fire while we sip on cups of hot coffee – then I will tell you about The Books of Days…
