In honor of our friends…

Our friends, Russ and Laura, have been traveling by bicycle across the United States since last Summer on an open-ended journey.

For several years before they left Long Beach to follow their dreams, they were a major part of our Friday night Happy Hour crew which met every week to unwind and share our ideas, dreams and latest creative works.

Over the course of many Happy Hours we were privileged to watch their shared dream take shape, acquire wheels and take them out onto the great American pilgrimage – the open road.

In honor of their One Year On The Road, a group of us got together last Friday, August 13th, so we could record a video “congratulations” to them.

Included in the video is Chris, Dominic and Jayme, Katie and Rick, Tania and myself, and Richard (the Jesse Ventura look-alike…)

This video was edited by myself on Saturday night, August 21st, with much input from Tania, Enjoy!

The Silhouettes of the Trees of Winter

Long Beach at dusk with winter trees...Every evening during this winter, when I’m walking Moseley (my dog), I get lost in staring at the winter trees with their beautiful silhouettes… it mesmerizes me.

I’ve been waiting since last summer to watch the trees change color and lose their leaves, finally to stand naked, quiet and settled in until the spring sunlight starts the re-greening process.

Since Moseley entered our lives a couple of years ago, and walking in my neighborhood has become a regular, several times-a-day-event, I’ve fallen in love with my local trees.

Last summer I did several video collages of one of my favorite trees on First Street here in Bluff Park, you can see one of them here:

Planet Venus

An added bonus every evening is to look up a see the planet Venus as the evening star, which sends my mind off into thoughts about the Maya time-system , non-linear time-space, my place on a round planet and other “beyond the horizon” kind of mental explorations.

I’m sure it does the same thing for you too…

Video Collage | 2201 E. 2nd St.,Long Beach CA – April 14, 2008 – 6pm

This is a video collage that I did back in April of a corner here in Long Beach on the edge of the Bluff Park neighborhood…

I constructed it from a number of shots, each about 1 minute in length, laid out so you can see over 180 degree, literally seeing in front of your self and behind yourself at the same time. If you’ve ever taken a multi-photo panorama you know how that’s done, except this collage is with video…

Here’s a video self-portrait I did in early June, 2008… but really I’m using this post to test a video plug-in for Word Press call WordTube that embeds video in your Word Press blog page…

How do you like this presentation? Is the video quality good enough? Any problems?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Video | Where It’s At | Beck with Jessica Dobson

This is our bible-study friend Jessica Dobson who is touring with Beck as his guitarist on the Modern Guilt tour. She started in June, and has been playing all over the place since then.

Tonight our bible-study group (I was sick and stayed home but my wife went) got to go up to a bar/club in LA to see a secret Beck show. Unfortunately Beck was sick also and the show got canceled…

Jessica is the worship leader at our church – Grace Harbor here in Long Beach. We meet at the Bixby Park community center every Sunday at 10ish – come check it out if you like. Any way, Jessica brings a sweet, old style, almost Carter Family-like sometimes, feel to the worship and you know it’s from her heart and where she’s at.

And with that, here’s the video: Where It’s At by Beck Hansen with Jessica Dobson on guitar.
