Asking For Questions

Posted by Jon, onehumanbeing on January 6, 2010

I’m getting ready for the next phase of The MMJ Project, part of which is a series of videos I’m going to be putting together this year.

The series is (tentatively) going to be called The Herb Report From The MMJ Project.

As many of you know, I’ve been involved with medical marijuana for quite a while, both as a patient and as a volunteer for a local Long Beach collective.

I’ve been taking photos of the herb for over a year and a half, and during that time I have looked at and handled (gently), smelled and smoked over 150 different strains.

One of my early goal of The MMJ Project was to participate, as a volunteer, in the forming of a real non-profit collective. I accomplished that goal this year when AAC – Apothecary’s Assistants Collective opened in Signal Hill at the end of March.

Since March we’ve had to battle city hall, relocate the collective to Long Beach, and experienced a number of hardships and miracles, met some really cool people and also learned some harsh realities about the nature of people…

At the end of 2009 a couple of my friends informed me (happily) that they had finally gotten their MMJ recommendation and were ready to plunge into the mysterious and often, confusing, world of medical marijuana.

This got me thinking… how hard would it be to put together a little series of videos, about 3 – 5 minutes each, that explained the various basics of the medical marijuana world?

Even though I’m not an expert, I do know a lot about the herb and the medical marijuana (MMJ) world… I could probably answer some of the general questions a person who is new to this world might have.

As an artist I am taking a step this year towards using audio and video in my work, and I’ve been thinking for days about how I want to enter this realm. This series is going to be my video playground to try out some ideas I’ve had for a while. I invite you to come on this little journey with me…

How you can help – Send me your questions about medical marijuana, collectives, being a MMJ patient, different strains, my experiences with the herb, etc.

No question is too basic and you can choose whether you would like me to use your name in the videos…

Just use the form below and send them to me and I’ll choose as many as I can to put in my series.

Questions sent so far:

1. Tania – if everyone who smoked marijuana would “come out of the closet” do you think it would normalize and integrate the pot-smoking culture into the mainstream?

2. Barbara – What medical conditions are authorized for MMJ? and added in the comments area… What are the reasons you are certified? I did not know there were any psych reasons for it. Just curious.

Thank you for the questions!

Send Yours Today!

Legal Medicine
Reduces Crime

Update: Saturday, August 1, 2009 – Join our Facebook Group – Help Save AAC

We’ve been quietly working to get Signal Hill to issue us a business permit, and instead they’ve chosen to force us to close by next Wednesday – even though they issued a 45 day moratorium on Medical Marijuana dispensaries at the July 7, 2009 city council meeting.

Our desire is to stay open and continue to serve our members and to develop a better relationship with our local city council, educting them on the benefits of having a quality medical marijuana collective in their city to serve it’s citizens. Legal access to medical marijuana reduces crime.

We are asking our members help us by contacting Signal Hill City Council through Scott Charney at scharney@cityofsignalhill.org and voice your opinion on the positive impact our collective has for the local community.

The next city council meeting is on Tuesday, August 4, so this issue is very timely…

Any help is greatly appreciated to help keep us open, and please be courteous, Mr. Charney has been very helpful to us.

More information will be posted soon, and we’ll have “Legal Medicine Reduces Crime” buttons this weekend available at the collective.

Apothecary’s Assistants Collective Grand Opening Celebration!

1_waiting_room_1.jpgJust wanted to let people know about a new MMJ collective here in Long Beach, California called Apothecary’s Assistants Collective (AAC)

I’ll be taking photos and helping with the web site as a community volunteer. Here is their website – aacollective.com – I’ve been working on it for the last few week or so…

AAC is dedicated to providing quality service to the MMJ community here in Long Beach, with a special interest in helping chronic, long term patients and termanly ill patients with high quality medicine at lower prices…

The head budtender is a very cool guy named Josh who I met last summer when he was the head budtender at CCLB. Josh is a natural-born Maître d’ and has a drive to create a place of health, community and wellbeing for his fellow MMJ patients.

This month – April 2009 – they’ll be celebrating their Grand Opening with various specials all month… stop by a visit if you’re in the LBC.

Here’s some basic information:
